Wednesday Afternoon, 7/21 1:30 – 4 pm Training for area First
Responders
As most Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Personnel know, very often they are the ones who have to tell families that their loved one is more impaired than they realize. Sometimes this comes with a ‘shoplifting’ incident, or leaving a restaurant without paying, a traffic accident or wandering episode or a kitchen or smoking fire. Teepa Snow will provide a very specific training for these professionals. Bring lots of questions and situations to ask about.
Thursday Evening, 7/22 7 – 9:30 pm Training for Caregivers who are
providing care for someone moderately impaired
Teepa Snow will provide practical insights for caregivers who are caring for someone who is moderately impaired or in mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Her methods of teaching will show poignantly about the disease process and how these individuals respond. She’ll also teach you techniques to help you respond better. We offered a similar training last year and people have used her techniques and been very pleased with the outcomes.
Friday Morning, 7/23 9-11:30 am Caregiving for newly diagnosed
individuals or those who haven’t been
diagnosed but are exhibiting memory issues.
This class will have the specific focus on caregivers who are wondering if their loved one actually has a problem and those for who a recent diagnosis has occurred. The frustrations are great for those in the beginning stages of the process and hopefully caregivers will learn more about how to respond and what the concerns and worries of the minimally impaired individuals are. If a diagnosis has not been made, Teepa will provide good insights about how to seek out a strong physician, get the person there and proceed with care. Issues you will face such as driving, cooking, financial records will be covered.
Friday Afternoon 7/23 1:30 – 4 pm Caregiving for those in late/end stages
While this disease progresses rather slowly, often being called ‘the long goodbye’, caregivers often don’t know what to expect in the late/end stages of the disease. While this is a difficult topic, many will want to know what they can anticipate and how they can prepare for these later months and years. Also, we will provide information about how to select a long term care facility.
All these classes will be held at the Collierville United Methodist Church.
The church is located at 454 W. Poplar. Use the Northern most entrance to the educational building near The Common Cup Coffee Shop. There will be directional signage to direct you to the nearby room.
These training sessions have been generously provided through a grant from the Collierville Community Fund and meeting space provided by Collierville United Methodist Church.
